I'm starting a new segment on the blog called The Little Things. In my pursuit of encouraging positivity in daily life, I love to write down some moments to cherish every day. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle, we sometimes fail to see the good things in life. It's hard to appreciate the little things when we are hit with all sorts of problems.
A LITTLE BACKSTORY
I used to be a very pessimistic person. I could drain the energy of a positively happy person with my negativity. I always see the problem in every solution. Some people might find me overbearing (especially at work). Nothing was good enough for me. I felt lonely, unhappy, and discontent. I tried to fill the void by squandering my hard-earned income on things I didn't need. I was too focused on temporary joys to fill the emptiness, which became a cycle. At some point, it even caused me financial problems.
FINDING HAPPINESS IN EVERYDAY MUNDANE
As I matured, I began to understand that happiness can be found even in the most mundane things. I don't have to spend just to be happy. I realized that even the simplest words of affirmation can uplift my spirit and bring me joy.
My anxiety during the pandemic was at an all-time high, thus looking for a hobby became my mental health support. Not long after my search, I found bullet journaling. I've always been a creative person and I love to do something that would challenge my creativity. I stumbled upon a video about gratitude journals while looking for something to watch about my new hobby. Watching people document their journey to living a grateful and happy life piqued my interest. I was eager to try anything that would help my mental health. I found writing in my gratitude journal a simple and inexpensive way to make myself happy. The activity makes me feel grounded and more mindful of my surroundings and how I interact with other people. At some point, I felt like a new person.
MINDFULNESS IS A PRACTICE
I have to admit, it's an up-and-down journey for me. When I get busy or overwhelmed, I sometimes forget to take a moment to thank God and work on my journal. After a short while, I would open my journal again to do my reflections and write simple words of gratitude. I think the trick is to take a break if you need to but make sure to never stop. It's been over a year since my mindfulness journey. Aside from daily prayers and reflections, I've been writing down my thoughts, and aha moments; I would write down even the most simple things that I feel grateful for.
Here's to injecting more mindfulness and gratitude content into the blog. Cheers to the start of romanticizing and cherishing the simple happy moments of everyday life!
